Excavators are engineering vehicles that are used to dig trenches or holes or foundations, lift and lower construction materials, demolish structures, landscaping, and in open-pit mining. Rather, they are used to reach higher stories of demolished buildings so that the structure can be pulled down. As with its name, long reach excavators have a long boom arm which makes them ideal for demolition jobs.
Aside from being the ideal choice for demolition jobs, long reach excavators are also commonly used by civil engineers, dredging contractors, quarrying companies, maritime companies and other public or private organizations. This type of excavator weighs around 4.5 to 85 ton and its reach can range from 8m to 25m. Since long reach excavators are not compact or portable, many private users disregard them in favor of mini excavators which have smaller sizes and lower weights. However, many companies in the construction industry contend that larger excavators may actually be more productive. Mini excavators have support limitations due to their sizes. Large excavators like the long reach excavators, meanwhile, can have their height, boom sizes, digging depth and bucket sizes adjusted. These engineering equipments also have applications that enable them to handle different boom arm and stick configurations. However, it is important to remember that for long reach excavator configurations, careful site evaluation is required. Important factors such as dipper length, track pad and auxiliary pipe must be considered before commencing any configuring efforts. Nevertheless, construction companies benefit from using larger excavators because they are capable of carrying larger and heavier materials. For them, this fact will translate to higher production, lower operating costs and competitive advantage over other companies.
