The Interesting Saga Of JCB Excavators
JCB excavators is a British company based in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, England. It specializes in the manufacture and marketing of engineering vehicles and farm equipment as well as related parts and attachments. It is the 3rd largest engineering vehicle company in the world. JCB excavators is more properly known as "J.C.Bamford (Excavators) Ltd." and colloquially known as "JCB". Many of the products manufactured and marketed by JCB excavators are very well regarded, especially of course, its excavators and tractors. The company has a very distinct yellow and black color scheme that it uses on most of its vehicles. Over 160 types of vehicles and machines are produced by the company for farming, industry, and engineering projects. Notably though, it is not well known for large mining machines as many of its competitors are.
JCB excavators was started just after the end of the Second World War by an Englishman named Joseph Cyril Bamford, whose initials are the origin of the name JCB excavators. It was started in October 1945 in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, England and its fabrication plant and first products were made with post-war surplus materials that were very much available in Britain at the time. The first product it ever rolled out was a fairly crude farm trailer. The company quickly grew in size, partly due to the reconstruction needs of Britain and Europe in general after the destruction brought about by the war. In 1953, the company introduced the first ever backhoe excavator in the world. This revolutionary machine also featured the logo of JCB excavators as we know it today. The company then expanded operations overseas, most notably in the United States, where the backhoe excavator was a huge success.
The growth and expansion of the company has continued to this day and now, JCB excavators has over 550 dealers in over 150 countries, making around 250 types of vehicles, accessories and attachments in 17 factories all over the world. It had over 6,300 employees as of 2006 and continues to innovate in the fields that made it the giant it is today, namely engineering vehicles and construction equipment.
The first product ever produced by JCB was for farming and the company to this day, continues to provide vehicles and machines for farming needs. JCB excavators models of hydraulic tractors have been popular all over the world for years. One particular model, the Fastrac, became the first tractor to be able to travel on roads with the speed of most cars, thanks to its proprietary suspension system. It is also the fastest model of tractor ever produced. A very interesting thing to note is the emergence of JCB excavators as a pop culture meme. The company has been mentioned in songs, movies, television and other media. As a matter of fact, the name "JCB" is synonymous in some countries for any kind of engineering vehicle. JCB excavators also maintains a team that specializes in vehicle gymnastics, particularly with excavators. This team does unusual tricks with heavy machinery that typically display daintiness and grace one would not find typical of large machines like excavators. The team also produces videos and tours industry meets to prove the versatility and flexibility of these machines.
