Excavator Toys

YAY! Excavator Toys!

Toys are one of the most cherished objects on the planet. Every child has his or her favorite toy. As do many adults. As a matter of fact, one of the current trends in the toy industry is the marketing of toys of all sorts to adult. The scale-model hobbyist community is also partly responsible for sales of realistic kinds of toys, even if strictly speaking hobbyist-built models are not toys. This is due to both the crossing-over in model and toy markets as well as many people desiring realistic toys or models without having the drive or inclination to create models from the ground up or from kits. All these factors have contributed to the diversity found in excavator toys today.

Excavator toys are probably one of the most interesting subsets of toys. These are not only marketed towards children, but also to hobbyists as well. Excavator toys come in dazzling variety and configurations, from cheap plastic facsimiles for toddlers to actual working scale models of actual excavators for serious hobbyists. They and other construction and engineering equipment related toys are common features in many toy chests world wide.

Excavator toys are most often bought for boys, due to traditional gender roles still present in society. However, the trend of gender roles in society being broken down that has started with the feminist movement still continues in many western countries, and more toys that are traditional given to boys such as action figures and toy tools are being finding their way in the toy collections of girls as well.

The sheer numbers of excavator models and makes that have been produced throughout the years and the active community of children and adults alike who are fascinated with these wonderful machines have resulted in ultra-realistic die-cast excavator toys being made of several models.

Some of these toys are actual, working excavators in miniature and many can do all the functions of a real excavator. Toys that represent real excavators made by Caterpillar, Komatsu, and other manufacturers are widely available. They come in all many scales, ranging in size from that of a typical easy chair to models that could fit inside of a pants pocket.

Other excavator toys go in the opposite direction and eschew realism in favor of simpler kinds of fun. Toys for small children and ones intended to be ridden by a child are such examples.

There is a community of people worldwide who collect excavator toys as well as other toys related to engineering and construction. Especially valuable to collectors are promotional toys distributed by engineering vehicle manufacturers and toys that only enjoy a limited run.

A general rule for toy collection that extends to the collection of toy excavators regards the value of toys in relation to included accessories and materials. The more accessories included in a particular toy model, the harder it would be to find the same model in the future that will have no missing accessories. Hence keeping all the accessories of your excavator toys is must if you are a collector.
